by Cllr. Kade Guerreiro — DA Ward Councillor for Ward 92 in Ekurhuleni
Date: 09 December 2022
Release: Immediate
Type: Media Statement
On the 2nd of December 2022, the MMC for Community Safety, Cllr. Khathutshelo Rasilingwane, conducted a by-law enforcement operation in Ward 92.
The operation yielded positive results, resulting in many illegal bottle stores and unlicensed taverns being closed down and fined due to non-compliance with municipal by-laws.
Illegal bottle stores and unlicensed taverns have become the norm in Ward 92 and have caused many issues such as alcohol abuse and anti-social behavior such as fighting and violence and excessive noise during the early hours of the morning.
The latest operation saw a bottle store in Klopperpark Ward 92 being closed for violating the prescripts of standard operating hours as stipulated per the Gauteng Liquor Act 2 of 2003.
The Democratic Alliance welcomes the initiatives introduced by MMC Rasilingwane and would like to applaud the efforts made towards improving community safety and curbing noise pollution and the mushrooming of illegal land use activities throughout the ward.
The community of Klopperpark and surrounding areas can now rest easy knowing that the Multi-Party Government has committed to enforcing adherence to by-laws and legislation which has been ignored for years under the ANC-led administration.
As the councilor for the ward, I am pleased to see more ground force operations taking place especially now during the festive season.
We look forward to seeing more of these initiatives in the ward in the near future.
For too long have we sat by and allowed illegal activities and anti-social behavior to flourish in our communities.
The time has come for us to rebuild the pride of our communities.
