The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the City of Ekurhuleni notes and welcomes the awards bestowed upon the City of Ekurhuleni at the inaugural SALGA Gauteng Municipal Audit Awards.
These awards aim to celebrate excellence within municipalities. Awarded for the 2021/22 financial year, these awards showcase the extensive turnaround strategies the DA and our coalition partners implemented to get Ekurhuleni functioning and operational after taking over a mismanaged municipality from the ANC.
These awards include:
· First Runner-up for spending 88 percent of Capex allocation towards service delivery for the 2021/22 financial year.
· Winner for Good recording keeping for the 2021/22 financial year.
· First Runner-up in terms of revenue collection and management for 2021/22.
Upon coming into government, we had a clear turnaround strategy of getting ‘Back to Basics’ and delivering services to communities. These awards showcase exactly what can happen in a short period of time when a Multi-Party government is dedicated and committed to turning the tide and getting Ekurhuleni back on track.
The significant progress made by prioritising solutions saw the Multi-Party Coalition improve the city’s cash on hand through our rigorous revenue enhancement programmes and focusing on basic services, which cannot be ignored and was recognised accordingly by SALGA.
We welcome these awards conferred on the City of Ekurhuleni and it indeed highlights the DA and the Multi-Party Coalition difference. We will continue to hold the corrupt ANC-EFF coalition to account and continue to dispel any myths peddled by this EFF-led coalition.
