Update on Street Light Repairs in the Germiston Area
By Cllr. Wendy Morgan — DA Ward 36 Councillor in Ekurhuleni
Date: 29 August 2022
Release: Immediate
Type: Media Statement
The Democratic Alliance in Germiston would like to update residents on the feedback received on street light repairs from the Department of Energy.
Feedback is as follows:
- Daily maintenance is being done on streetlights, please bear in mind that theft and vandalism of infrastructure is happening daily, as streetlights are easily accessible for illegal connections and theft.
- Residents may notice that some streetlights are on 24/7, this is due to all the switching points in the control panel having been stolen.
- All the streetlights on our network are controlled by a photo-cell device but unfortunately most have been stolen, we are however in the process to replace them gradually.
We would like to assure our residents that work is being done, further it is monitored on both daily and weekly reports from the teams on the ground.
Acts of vandalism, theft and illegal connections are rife during scheduled loadshedding, leading to multiple unplanned power outages and creating the impression that work is not being done at ground level. However, we can assure you that the work is being done.
