Name: Derek Thompson

Ward: Ward 1, Ekurhuleni

My name is Derek Thompson, and I am the Democratic Alliance Ward 1 Candidate in the City of Ekurhuleni (CoE).

I am standing as a Ward Councillor to ensure service delivery and urgently address the pervasive corruption in the Metro.

Issues I intend to drive in the Ward, include the contamination of water in the Kaalspruit from the Olifantsfontein Waste Water Treatment Plant, illegal sand mining in the Kaalspruit, and the increasing air pollution from the Olifantsfontein Industrial Area.

I have provided electricity to Tswelopele, as well as provided meals to poverty-stricken households especially during the Covid-19 lockdown. I have facilitated the installation of toilets for each household in Tswelopele, as well as installed high mast lights in Clayville. My future visions includes assisting residents property evaluations, improving air quality and being generally improving service delivery across the board.

I have been very successful in engaging with my Ward through social media, Whatsapp groups, public meetings and forming a community forum in Midstream.

My strengths lie in communication and knowing the issues that affect residents in my Ward, as well as knowledge on how to address their issues.
