Release: Immediate
Type: Media Statement
The Democratic Alliance in Ward 15 would like to inform residents on the following updates:
Meter Readings:
- The City will soon implement a new meter reading system that has been developed to allow its customers to directly send their water and electricity meter readings to the City on time by allowing customers to capture their meter readings through a mobile meter reading portal on the MyCoE App.
- In instances where residents cannot read their energy meters, they are urged to apply to switch to prepaid and in the meantime, residents can email readings to siyakhokha@ekurhuleni.gov.za
Valuations:
- The Appeal Board hearings have commenced, if you lodged an appeal, you will be invited to attend. Please ensure you bring along supporting documents for your case, such as a valuation from a municipal valuer or estate agent, comparative sales in the area and photos if you feel necessary.
- If you never objected, you may still lodge a Section 78 query, please contact me for the form..
Reinstatements:
- Once a Department does a repair, that department must do reinstatements, standard practice is to let the ground settle for 2 weeks. As the infrastructure is so old, we are experiencing daily issues, thus the departments are struggling to catch-up with the reinstatement backlogs. Please log all “reinstatement” requests via the call centre.
The Homeless:
- Social Development Departments (CoE and Provincial) have come together with the EMPD to investigate various options to resolve the Kempton Park Homelessness issue.
- Except for MES, there are no homeless shelters.
- EMPD can only remove the homeless from the area, but they migrate and return.
Crime:
- Please join your local CPF / CCF structures as we need patrollers, however you do not have to sign up as a patroller, as a CCF member, you are the eyes and ears of the CPF, assisting SAPS as legislated by the SAPS Act.
- Residents please do report all crimes to SAPS. These reports assist SAPS in determining crime “hotspots” to patrol.
Old Kempton Park Hospital:
- There are currently no new updates on the future of this Hospital.
- I am in communication with Province and National government about the maintenance of the grounds.
- The Airsoft games are approved and all above board. The illegal “ghost hunting” is being investigated by various local and provincial departments.
Kempton Truck Eater:
- Elgin bridge — I am currently in communication with various departments to find a cost effective, viable solution to stop trucks from trying to move our bridge. We are looking at improved signage and hopefully uploading the low bridge location to GPS systems.
