Release: Immediate
Type: Media statement
Today marks the first day in the upgrade and full maintenance of the Mega Wesel Road Substation in Sunny Ridge ward 92 under the Back-to-Basics program the City is working towards ensuring that the energy supply and infrastructure is safe for our communities.
Sunny ridge and surrounding areas often have power issues due to aged infrastructure and a system that can’t hope with the needs of an ever-growing population. Over the next three financial years a total of R42million will be spent on the upgrade of this mega sub which will see a much safer and more stable energy supply to the vast majority of ward 92.
As our first of the three financial years has started, R12million will be spent this year and a further R30 million over the next two financial years, this will see much improvement and a more state of the art system that will be able to assist the load. Areas such as Sunnyridge, Sunnyrock, Gerdview, Homestead, Rustivia, Marlands, Woodmere, Primrose East, Wannenburg and Activia Park will benefit from this much needed project.
Under the administration of the Multi-Party Coalition Government and the back-to-basics program such projects will see to more basic infrastructure getting fixed. This is a huge step forward in ensuring that we put our communities first.
As the Ward Councillor, I would like to thank the Multi-Party Coalition and the MMC for Water, Sanitation and Energy, Cllr Senzi Sibeko as well as the Germiston Energy Department for the implementation of this positive project in Ward 92.
The Energy Department has confirmed work has already started and throughout the process communication will be given such as keeping the community informed should power be turned off while work is taking place.
